Microsoft Office 2010 Beta

Well, I’ve now installed Microsoft Office 2010 Beta, and it’s very posh!
The only thing I’m not sure about is that when the commercial version is released that I’ll still be able to use the product key that Microsoft supplied for it. It didn’t say anything in the instructions about expiring, like the Windows 7 beta did, so I’m optimistic that it won’t.
We got Office 2007 at Christmas, and it didn’t come with Outlook, which I was dissapointed about, since Outlook is the main application I use. However, with the revelation of Office 2010 Beta, that problem has been solved. I’m looking forward to trying out Access 2010 as well, with the Teach Yourself books I use for programming.

NTL Smtp Settings

Not even set up my home page on this new website and I’m blogging already!
I suppose I’m just posting this for future reference. If you’re like me, a control freak – not to mention an IT geek – you might have looked into setting up your own email server, so you can host your email from home. Hey, it’s the cheapest option if you can’t afford to pay a company to do it for you. You might be tearing your hair out trying to actually get it to send email.
I’m using hMailServer software, and of course, my ISP is NTL world. All you need to know is the following:
62.253.162.40
This seems to work instead of smtp.ntlworld.com which is very bizarre – how is the layman supposed to know this?! My next step is to get the incoming email to work – but that should be a relatively simple issue. I’ll post it here when I work it out.

Bio: Currently living in the West End of Glasgow, I studied music for most of my life. Graduating with my music degree in 2005, I did a short course in Multimedia Communications in 2006, and continued to teach myself web design and programming. Success in 2007 saw me working as a web designer for Hilton Hotels, which was an amazing opportunity for both work and social activities. Doing work experience as a web developer in 2008 left me very unsure if I want to continue with that line of work. With the recent recession there are almost no suitable jobs around, so it's very hard. To that end, I've just decided to try and get any job I can, so I can get out and meet people. Interests include music, computing, politics and radio.
